The purpose of this Foundation is primarily to enhance the development of emerging artistic talent through cross-cultural exchanges. Secondly, it is the intention of the Foundation, when possible; to assist artists involved to have their work made available for display to the public. Cultural exchanges and activities promoted may entail a variety of opportunities for grants, exhibitions, residencies for study, concerts, seminars, catalogs documentary films and other, such as special multi-disciplined (painting, photography, sculpture, music) projects, etc.
The intention of the Foundation is to offer artists an opportunity to work and develop their work away from the normal routine of their current situation. We believe that an artist’s experiences, exposure, and inspiration are enhanced by the luxury of an extended period to focus without interruption, and an involvement in cross-cultural dialogue. Participants are selected on recommendation from board members, with the criteria that they are serious artists who are not only motivated and independent, but also embrace the concept of working alone in a foreign environment. This opportunity is not to be used as a vacation or intended for children. Any guests are limited to two weeks. In addition, we request that the artists chosen spend most of the residency in Dijon, rather than traveling.
We want to encourage every Farpathian to be locally active during their time of residency in Dijon. This is mainly in consideration of the bi-cultural aspect of this residency and the eagerness to share interests, The Dijon art community is certainly keen on what is happening in the American art world and is likely to be open to some kind of exchange with the visiting artist.
It is our intention that artists coming to New York avail themselves of its vast resources and opportunities to experience the variety of artistic expression available there. It is our intention that inspiration from this experience will provide a source for growth in their personal work.
